​​Skills for HR Benefits Consultant

  • This position requires a minimum of five (5) years of Human Resources experience, including
  • experience administering both pension and health and welfare benefits.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of a broad range of employee benefits required.
  • Experience with Consumer Driven Health Plans, Health Savings Accounts and Wellness Programs
  • preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ACA, COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, HIPAA and other related state and
  • federal regulations required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s or Degree in a related field is preferred.
  • PHR or SPHR preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Access and benefit administration systems required.
  • Experience with Lawson HR System highly preferred.
  • This position requires excellent interpersonal skills as well as strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make professional presentations.

Technical Competencies

  • This position requires an in-depth knowledge of Human Resources Management, particularly
  • with regard to benefits administration.
  • Knowledge of health and welfare benefits, pensions, 403(b) plans, life insurance, and disability
  • required.
  • Solid foundation of laws related to benefits administration required.
  • Strong pc skills, including use of Excel, Access, Word and DOS programs required

Responsibilities for HR Benefits Consultant

  • Participates in the review and selection of benefits.
  • Assists with benefit bills and budget tracking
  • Explains and interprets HR policies and benefits to associates.
  • Tracks and reviews benefits eligibility, using the HR payroll system and other resources.
  • Participates in new hire orientation and supports on-going benefits enrollment.
  • Participates in Open Enrollment through the drafting, editing and distribution of benefits materials.
  • Tests and validates benefit contribution rates, plan design, set ups, enrollments and other HR/benefits systems.
  • Serves on the benefits exception review committee.
  • Assists associates with 403(b) and 401(k) loans and withdrawals and other decisions and Transactions.
  • Participates in pension data recordkeeping and participant education.
  • Provides counseling to associates needing benefits information.
  • May be asked to focus on one or two benefit plans but must be knowledgeable of and prepared to work with all benefit plans.
  • Completes special projects and responds to requests for benefits information and data.
